God still heals today: A short study

This paper concerns itself with the statement that 'God still heals today'. This statement presupposes doubt and worst a negation of healing as integral to God's activities today. In the light of such doubt or negation, the statement affirms God's healing activity for our time. The debate around the genuineness of the healing ministry today takes place among Christians. What differentiates them as they debate whether the healing ministry as experienced today is genuine or not, is the context in which they do their theologising. Both camps have access to the same biblical data and their dealings with it differ because the questions they ask borne by their contexts differ. Now, if the statement was to be turned into the following question: 'does God still heal today?' How would one go about answering this question? In answering it, we would need to take notice of the following:

1) That the question does suggest if not acknowledge God's healing activity in the past.

2) That our knowledge of God and his past activity are recorded in Scripture.

3) that our self understanding as the people of God today is borne out of and sustained by Scripture thus calling us to continual reflection on our experiences in the light of Scripture for either validation or invalidation thereof.
